We’re working in Maya 2014 x64 and I’m trying to track down a weird problem that only seems to happen for one animator on the team. When referencing in a character rig the Mesh is missing and the rig is broken and crumpled at the origin. I can still see all the nodes including the mesh in the outliner, but it is not visible in the viewport.
Could this be some kind of preferences, or reference setting issue?
The character references in just fine for 4 other people on the team, but appears broken just for one person, so I’m feeling a little stumped how to fix it since it’s not a consistent problem.
are you sure everyone is on the same version and service pack of maya?
sometimes a service pack, or extension will introduce new attributes and when you try to load or reference that file into a different version things blow up.
We are all on a license server loading the same image, and launched through a central build, so I think the Maya Version is the same.
I’m considering now whether their could be some plugin version mismatch that is getting written into the scene header though.
Other than that I can’t imagine why it is only happening to one person.
EDIT: Just checked and all Plugins match. I’ve even tried opening their broken scene on multiple machines and the scene loads fine elsewhere. So it seems like it’s some sort of node type that isn’t expected and can’t be referenced in. I’m not sure how to isolate it though.
Maybe this can help: go to Reference Editor -> File -> List Reference Edits… Try to delete any changes you might not have done. In our case we needed to delete all skin cluster edits because they did for way mess up the skin on our character.
This is just something I though of, though I think it kinda sound like a plug in problem.
Is the file being referenced into an empty scene, or are there other objects referenced in as well? I’m wondering if you could have a name/namespace clash.
