Arm ik/fk switch problems

I’m building an IK/FK switching arm, and when I’m blending between IK and FK, the constrained control elbow joint does not orient to the wrist joint.

when the arm is fully constrained to the IK or FK bones, the elbow is correctly oriented to the wrist.

also, during the blend, the distance between the elbow and the wrist bones shortens (from 58 units to 42)

here’s an image of the arm stepping through the blend. I don’t knwo if this is a fairly standard issue, as I’m pretty new to rigging, any help or ideas would be appreciated. I’d like to keep this as a switching rig.

Ah, a solution:

it turns out that I shouldn’t have point constrained the control wrist bone to the ik and fk wrist bones. it was moving linearly from where one was to where the other was, which was causing it to be incorrectly placed relative to the properly oriented elbow joint. thus, problem solved
