Specific mesh object is stuck on wireframe display mode on top view but can be shown as shaded in other views just fine

For some reason my mesh is not displaying as smooth on top view, it is stuck on displaying the mesh as wireframe, I dont know why. This issue does not occur in the other views. I have checked that the object

  • is not in a display layer
  • display attribute is not set to ‘reference’ or ‘template’
  • ‘wireframe’ view for the top view is off

etc, etc yet for some reason the object is only being displayed as a wireframe. I can create other meshes and the top view will display them fine, like the cube mesh.

I tried exporting the mesh in question as obj and then importing it back, but the issue remains. very confused with this.

Am on maya 2026

I would guess the material is broken - missing texture or something? Try assigning a new lambert material to the mesh and see if it displays.

Also check the shape node’s Mesh Component Display and Object Display/Drawing Overrides in the Attribute Editor for any non-default settings.

Hey thanks for this answer, I Checked those, they appeared to be untouched, Some user on reddit told me it could be the backface culling setting for that specific viewport, and sure enough that is what it was.

Oh boy, cant wait for the next merry-go-round adventure.
