I am a blogger and I am creating a website devoted to educating aspiring music producers and sound engineers on the technology of audio and sound dynamics. I need an artist that can create visually stunning yet technically accurate designs. many of these images are not extremely complex, and some may allow for artistic interpretation. I am well aware of the value of all artwork being a musician myself.
What I am requesting:
I am requesting unlimited and indefinite use of your artwork for the duration of my site or any future site designed by me. I may also request advice, input on the visual design of the site for the purposes of displaying your artwork and the content in the most attractive manner.
What I am offering:
I will dedicate 1/4th of my publicity efforts to promoting your artwork, blog, website ect. Every piece of artwork will be given full recognition and I will provide a single page of the website that you can design to promote yourself as an artist. You can provide links to your blog, artwork, or other website that will provide you with adequate benefit to compensate for the use of your artwork.
Stipulations: My only stipulations are that the links that I provide to your sites must not link to any content that is sexual, illegal or is unacceptable by general social standards. I will also not allow you to link to any content that misdirects or redirects users to content that is purely affiliate advertisement or similar content.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to meeting one of you!
Also, what you are offering doesn’t require much effort compared to what you are requesting. This has been an issue in the creative industries for years:
“Create some artwork for me and you’ll have something for your portfolio/CV and experience and I’ll tell people how good you are!”
You can transfer this to other industries:
Decorator: “Paint my house for me and you’ll have something for your portfolio/CV and experience and I’ll tell people how good you are!”
Chef: “Cook several meals for me and you’ll have something for your portfolio/CV and experience and I’ll tell people how good you are!”
Or since you’ve got a musical background:
Musician: “Create a soundtrack for my independent film and you’ll have something for your portfolio/CV and experience and I’ll tell people how good you are!”
Rick, I understand your point of view, I would never ask another artist to do what I wouldn’t do myself. I recently did respond to several independent film makers to provide my music so that I could increase my visibility. I also provide a good portion of my music as full length high quality downloads at reverbnation to learn about networking with people, and growing my fanbase. Doing this is a very important part of learning how to deal with the street value of my music and how to increase it.
I can see a direct value in helping others succeed, While I understand that many advertisers here may be out to get something for nothing, I am not… if my site succeeds, then there would be direct benefit to the artist… including future compensation. If an artist were having trouble breaking into the field this could give some very needed credibility to their work. People can’t hire you, or love you as an artist if they don’t know about you. While I understand that this offer may not be for just anyone. It could actually be a valid opportunity for an artist to expand their network.
Is it a gamble? sure… It is just as much a gamble for me… I have already put in over 200 hours of design, setup, to make this a reality. and I may not get anything out of it except the knowledge that I was creative… and I collaborated with someone to create something great. Even if no one ever recognizes it for what it is…
I think Jason, if you want to get some serious interests from this forum then you need to open up bit more and let us know what you are exactly up to. You said you have already spent 200 hours on it. Let us see what your ideas are, what is your project all about? It is hard to convince any one to come forth with bald step while everything seems bit unknown. Almost everyone in this forum has a full time job or kinda very busy with everything so to squeeze some time out of us will require you to lay down bigger picture here. And I am not trying to be some assX here really.
I agree, the site I am developing is for small venue sound guys that need a leg up on the techniques and information that professional sound engineers use on a daily basis. I am occasionally called out to small churches that were struggling with sound issues, and often they call me right after getting a 50K quote from an engineer to fix their sound issues. In my experience the equipment is installed and the engineer goes his way pocketing a hefty profit and the church still deals with sound issues because nobody knows how to run the equipment. All I do when I show up is take a look at their equipment and make some suggestions on a few purchases and changes. generally they will spend about $2000 dollars on some budget priced but solid gear. then I install it and teach a one day class on sound dynamics and how to be a sound guy. Then I sit in for a service, and demonstrate live during the service how to deal with sound issues.
My goal with the website is to provide all of that information to anyone that is interested in an easy to read format. however I need to provide demonstrations that show how audio interacts with the physical world, walls, uneven surfaces, studio foam,
I also want to demonstrate how sound waves cancel each other , standing waves, resonance, and other things like how sound acts while it is being processed electronically what compression looks like and what expansion or clipping looks like.
I am planning on eventually having video classes available on the site to discuss particular subjects and would like to have simple animations that I could play during the video to demonstrate these ideas…
anyways… that is the gist of the project. I have just started putting up the content on the site(no images just some sample artwork) so feel free to check it out. I welcome any input as this is a labor of love and I would really like this site to take off!
