Reordering vertex ids

Does anyone know of a way to transfer vertex ids from one mesh to another?

I know that this topic has been discussed before:

I’ve been trying to do it through transfer attributes, but I haven’t been able to get it to work. I have two identical meshes with the same topology, uvsets, and uvs. The only thing different is the vertex ids which I have displayed. The two meshes are placed side by side. In my transfer attributes options I have: Vertex position=On, Vertex normal=On, UV Sets=Off, Color Sets = Off, Sample space = UV, Mirroring = Off, Search method = Closest to point.

When I transfer, nothing happens and the vertex ids remain the same. I have read several threads saying that transfer attributes should be able to transfer vertex ids so I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong. Or does anyone know of any scripts or plug-ins? I’ve used reorder Mesh in Maya’s devkit, but it is fairly limited. I’m using Maya 2014.

Thanks!

There’s a plugin in the maya devkit already for this. Someone compiled them for win.
