Mid-Sr. Tech Artist needed at Slipgate Ironworks

Slipgate Ironworks was founded in 2005 and is located in San Mateo, CA. The studio is led by a dedicated team of seasoned game industry professionals who are currently developing an MMO based on an original IP for a worldwide audience.

Slipgate Ironworks is seeking an exceptionally skilled Mid-Sr. Technical Artist to work on a new MMORPG currently in production. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of the most current art production technologies and techniques, and extensive experience in the design, execution and maintenance of a large-scale production pipeline and art tools on at least 2-3 shipped games. The Technical Artist will work closely with the Lead Technical Artist and the Art Leads to develop assets and pipelines, and establish best practices of art production. The Technical Artist must have a broad understanding of all the asset pipelines with particular emphasis on environment and modeling techniques. The ideal candidate also works well in a professional environment with colleagues that are passionate about making great games.

Responsibilities:

[li]Solve technical production issues, define work-flows, streamline processes, and develop tools/frameworks for the art team.
[/li][li]Help to improve the art production pipelines.
[/li][li]Create art tools, and consistently produce key deliverables.
[/li][li]Work efficiently and effectively to ensure the art team’s progress.
[/li][li]Work with engineering and tools teams to develop tools/scripts/plugins to streamline art processes.
[/li][li]Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of Artists, Technical Artists, and Coders.
[/li][li]Incorporate feedback from Art Director, Lead Technical Artist, and peers to make requested improvements in a positive and constructive way.
[/li][li]Collaborate with Art Director and team in art reviews to create the finest artistic look possible.
[/li][li]Mentor and lead less experienced artists by example. Help establish and perpetuate the quality bar.

Qualifications:

[ul]
[li]3+ years experience in the games industry and shipped AAA games required.
[/li][li]2+ years of experience as a technical artist.
[/li][li]Experience working on an MMO or online game a definite plus.
[/li][li]Expert knowledge of Maya is crucial, working knowledge of 3dsMAX and Modo a plus
[/li][li]Candidates must possess creative problem solving skills and the capacity for learning new procedures and techniques.
[/li][li]Solid understanding of proper workmanship involved in creating 2D and 3D art for efficiency and aesthetics.
[/li][li]Candidates must be an expert in MEL scripting.
[/li][li]HLSL shader authoring experience is a plus.
[/li][li]Good understanding of Python, Perl, JavaScript, C++, etc. is a plus
[/li][li]Character Pipeline/Rigging experience in Maya is a plus.
[/li][li]Knowledge of traditional art skills, including color theory, lighting, anatomy, composition, design, sculpting, sketching or painting is a plus.
[/li][li]Database admin experience is a big plus.
[/li][li]Strong interpersonal and communication skills - able to interact with team members of different disciplines.
[/li][li]Good positive attitude and outlook, self-motivated, and a great team-player.
[/li][li]A passion for developing games, as well as being an avid gamer.
