Weapon Effects - wip

My first post on Tech-Artists!

I’m helping a Machinima team on their unreal movie. Was looking for some pointers for weapon effects in UE3.

Tasks:
Minigun Muzzle (in progress)
Minigun Tracer (in progress)
Minigun impact metal

That looks decent. I think you’ve got too many shots going there though. I would expect to see fewer. Also, I would probably make the smoke so that it drifts away from the muzzle instead of sticking right in the center.

this is my current progress. Trying to figure out how to have dynamic lighting on particles for the bullets. any ideas? At the moment their materials are set to emissive.

Dynamic lights are expensive. Having a dynamic light for every projectile is not realistic. If you have a weapon that fires a single, very powerful projectile (like a plasma cannon or rocket launcher), then yes, you’d probably attach a dynamic light to it, but it’s not possible to attach dynamic lights to every round of a rapid fire weapon. I’d recommend instead that you look into attaching a dynamic light to the muzzle flash. That way you’re only using one instead of hundreds.
