Underworld Nodes in Maya

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone has any useful advice regarding underworld nodes, specifically getting useable info from them it seems that it is handy to have a transform that is manipulated in the UV space of a nurbs object. Only two channels of information to key regarding position, but it has the following limitations;

Can’t parent something to that underworld transform.
Cant hide the Nurbs shape as the underworld node is a child of the Shape itself.
Can’t parent a new shape node to the underworld transform.
Can’t constrain anything to the underworld node or vice versa

I thought it may provide some nice cheats, but anytime i think I have found a workaround (i.e. closestPointOnSurface or the like), it ends in a dead end. Getting useable world space data would be a start.

Has anyone found a way to use them in a useful way within a rig?
Am I wasting my time?
