Technical Artist
We seek a skilled technical artist that can interface between the creativity of the art team and the specifications of the programming team to effectively bring artistic concepts into practical production application. Understanding game play and systems architecture and the dependencies on content creation is critical, along with the ability to develop processes and solutions to maximize creative goals around development boundaries.
Job Description
I. Primary Responsibilities
• Work with artists and programmers to transition concepts to production art
• Maintain constant involvement with all relevant members of the art team to expertly know the design goals of the title and to solve complex technical issues for the art team
• Designing, implementing and maintaining art production paths using proprietary software and industry standard tools
• Designing, building and maintaining scripts for production team to optimize the art pipeline
• Work with team members to troubleshoot problems and find appropriate solutions on a system-wide and individual basis
• Create documentation and instructional aides to assist the team in learning new technologies and processes
II. Required Skills and Abilities
• Expert skill level in the use of 3DS Max
• Strong knowledge of the creating complex scripts in 3DS Max
• Well developed artistic abilities in 3D modeling, texturing, composition and color
• Experience with texture concepts including normal maps and ambient occlusion
• Comprehensive understanding of technical issues between programming and art with the ability to dissect, interpret and communicate complex topics to all members of the team
III. Experience
• Familiarity with industry standard tools and software
• At least four years experience in the game industry
• At least one published game credit
• A BFA from an accredited school
• An avid gamer
• Work experience on MMO’s - preferred
• Working with outsourced art teams and hands-on art integration from multiple sources - preferred
• Polished presentation skills to explain and rationalize artistic decisions to management - preferred
