Technical Art Director
Overview
The TAD will create content as well as help guide the look and quality of the shipping game. The Technical Art Director also defines production techniques used by artists, and enables artists to operate at peak efficiency.
Responsibilities
• Act as a technical art expert for the project.
• Write and maintain tools for creation of difficult or cumbersome art asset creation
• Use Mental Ray and Maya to create elements, sequences and breathtaking vistas.
• Assist in the creation of cinematic elements and epic game moments.
• Work with development teams to evaluate production issues and define solutions, whether they be knowledge/training, process, pipeline or tool related.
• Work closely with dev leads to push the boundaries of our technology.
• Conduct reviews and advises senior production staff of any concerns and where necessary design effective solutions for potential problems ideally before they arise in production.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and correct art runtime performance issues.
• Make a significant difference to the pixels on the screen.
Requirements
• 5+ years in game development.
• 3+ years as a Technical Artist in a game company.
• Solid understanding of proper workmanship involved in creating 2D and 3D art for efficiency and aesthetics.
• Solid understanding of Mental Ray and offline rendering.
• In depth experience and skills relating to modeling, texturing, lighting, character rigging, animation, dynamics and particle systems.
• A high level of expertise with Maya and After Effects (or other comp software)
• Scripting and plug-in writing skills. Knowledge of Python and Mel.
