Hi,
I am working on a character rig and i am facing some super n00b issues with the swivel angle I can’t figure out.
When i create the bones for the legs, the knee is facing more or less -Y. The swivel angle of the ik chain that goes from the upper leg to the ankle is more or less rotated Z:-45
Ok, I want to control the swivel angle of the knee with a controller.
I create a sphere and place it where the knee is facing, -Y and move it slightly forward. Then i select the IK chain and assign the sphere as the swivel controller.
The bones automaticatly rotate 45 degrees on Y.
This makes complete sense to me as the sphere itself is more or less at 45 degrees from the ik chain swivel angle plane, when i assign the sphere as a controller for the swivel angle it rotates the bones to compensate.
The question is, am i doing it correctly? It doesn’t make much sense to me to then move the sphere controller back to roughly return the bones to their original position. This wouldn’t happen if the sphere is aligned to the swivel angle of the ik chain before assigning it as a controller but i coudln’t figure out a way to do that. Also even if i do that, the “zero” swivel angle position for that ik chain looks incorrect to me. I would like to modify the default position of the swivle angle without affecting the bones.
Any help on this topic would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Ruben.
