Rigging and animation tools reel

Howdy folks. I’m in the middle of a career transition from games (Double Fine Productions) to independent freelance work in NYC so I thought I’d pass along my portfolio to the talented tech-artists here. It has been awhile since I’ve participated in these forums but I’m sure I’ll get back into it once I start some work in a few months.

Here’s my tools reel showing the rigging and animation tools I wrote at Double Fine. There’s also an animation reel on my site, but this is a rigging forum.

Let me know what you guys think. (also, did I put this in the right forum?)

Excellent work.

I’m really looking forward to have an insight into your tool design.

Great stuff! How well is the animation preserved when the rig changes?

Really nice. enjoyed it!

Hey anim8d, guess I missed this question. The animation is preserved perfectly in SOME cases. If you evenly scale the rig you just have to evenly scale all the translate keys in the animation the same amount and it lines up perfectly, however if you scale part of the rig that has IK on it, or if any rotation axes change, or in some other instances, you’ll have to go in and do some fixing manually… but the Curve Poser I demo’d in that video helps a bit.

I’ve always thought it must be possible to record the changes to the rig as you make them and automatically apply them to the animation file when you open it, but that seems like some crazy over my head math to convert the local rotation axis changes to eular angle changes.

Pretty neat!

One suggestion is to really tone down the volume on the music!

These tools are like commuters of heraldry which are used by animators. The setting is so,that software interrogates itself in case of any manipulation.
Some examples are Z-brush, 3D modelling.
