Retargeting animation rigs

hey Guys, has anyone done retargeting in Maya without using fbik or human ik?

I have a standard animation rig that is used on a few differently proportioned characters. Rigs are the same in the construction and functionality. I would like to be able to retarget animation from one to another but maintain keyframes and tangents and have options for proportional retargeting and contextual retargeting. BY contextual I mean if character needs to reach certain point(door nob) retargeting tool can attempt to do that.

I am looking for resources to do this type of thing.

thank you

Did you check out Mark Jackson’s MasterClass on Live Animation Binding? Seems like there may be some things there you could use as a starting point:

I haven’t done this myself yet, as we are making a transition to Maya for some things. However, I have been researching it a bit and I did like some of the methods that Mark Jackson shows in his master class presentation. Perhaps you can use some of the techniques that he goes over to get what you are looking for. Good luck!

Ok, I didn’t refresh my Browser… I posted the exact same thing as Seth.

thanks guys
Will watch it this weekend.

Nice to see that video on vimeo, the Autodesk website doesnt work too well for me

Cheers guys. Thought it had been on The Area long enough now and it’s a pain in the arse having to register and log-in (although it does up the counters so they can see who’s watched what)
There’s an updated version of the code on my blog too for anybody wanting to run the toolkit under older versions of Maya.

I’d also seriously look at HIK in 2012, we’re now integrating it in a similar manner to the MasterClass but at a more core level, kind of an underlying layered system to all the production rigs. Looks very promising indeed.
