New Rigging Demo Reel

Hello everybody,
I just finished my new rigging demo! It can be viewed here: http://www.xyzillusions.com/demo-reel/
Please feel free to critique it and let me know what can be done to make the next one better.

Do you have a direct download link? i’m having trouble getting it to stream from the page (probably our firewall or some other network guardian).

I could email it to you. Email me at: jgaines@xyzillusions.com Then I’ll send it to you via yousendit.

yeah, the page looks blank to me…

a refresh tossed a database error message -

Works for me: http://www.xyzillusions.com/file/video/Joshua_Gaines_DemoReel.mov

I’ve placed a copy here (only available for 10 downloads :-/ ):

I think at work I had the wrong QuickTime version and had to download a .mov and extract the .m4v filename.

Nice reel though, the rigs cover all the bases. I especially liked the cow - those udder controls are a definite must-have

I couldn’t get it to play either at first. But if you paste that last .mov link into VLC or something like that it works great.

Nice reel

thank you!

Ah, that’s got it…definitely agree, very nice entry-level reel. I might recommend taking out the animation clips, but otherwise good. You may be interested in this thread:

Mmmm…sounds like we need a rigging techniques thread…or a whole Forum devoted to them:D:

That thread would be good. I have some stuff on IK/FK snapping I did to help some friends figure it out. If you want a link to it let me know.

You could always bump this thread, was a fun discussion:

How do you author state blend switching?
I still can’t figure out how to do IK/FK Snap :(
There are several ways to do a IK/FK snape.
One i recommend you and found it very fast in terms of setup, is using switchable Joints, it means, first make you’re Joints(3 joint in this case) and then 3 points for FK setup(this are placed at the same position of the 3 joints) and then again make another 3 points, they are linked togather and amking the IK action(again placed at the same position of the 3 joints).

Now easily you can assigne position and rotation constraints to the 3 joints and then select the targets (in this case those points mentioned above) and now you got the switchable IK/FK setup.

If you are eager to know more, let me know i will let you know how to do the auto snap for it as well!

Thanks guys, this has got me thinking. I would love to read any literature on what you guys have to teach me. Unfortunately, I don’t get to flex much of my TD muscles, so I’m working on several of my own side projects at home.
