Mocap Skeleton Help

Hey Everyone,

I was wanting to learn the process for creating a mocap skeleton. I’ve researched rigging a lot, but I haven’t found much on this subject. Are there any books, links, or learning videos that you could point me towards?

I use maya, and was hoping to build a maya and motionbuilder pipeline, because I have used motionbuilder to animate and thought that it was an awesome tool. Although, right now I would be happy with just the information on how to setup the rig in maya. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Create the skeleton as normal. I don’t know if anything is different in particular. Just make sure the hips are at the top of the skeletal hierarchy. You define the character in motion builder. Also, make sure you have a node that is a parent of the hips as the “CharRef,” a locator or something. This will be necessary to do batch functions.

Yes, Leo is correct, just a good solid skeleton…good joint placement, joint orients etc. one hiearchy.

Brian, if your out at Spiderwood near Austin, we can talk more about what your trying to do.

Thanks for the help guys! The part that I am most fuzzy on though is taking the animation from motionbuilder, and putting it on to a rig that the animators could use in maya.

Thanks for the offer bClark! I’ll send you a pm.
