Hi there.
I am having trouble with the dark art of motion builder, or rather lack of tutorials. Does anyone know of a site or can point me in the right direction that isn’t you tube related ( AS shity IT parent company blocked site).
Here is where I am up to? I have brought in a Maya human Ik rig into motion builder and then characterised it. What do I need to do now to get a mocap file onto this rig and have it animated.
Sorry for the abruptness of this thread but I am really getting fed up of chasing my tail with unfamiliarity of the software.
I think that I know a free available tutorial which could help you. You can find it on eat3d. This guy explains his workflow for retargeting and motion edeting (layers, keys, curves, using the control rig, plotting,…). You should also check out the latest comment on this tutorial video.
Reading a bit through the Motionbuilder Help could also be handy to recieve a first glimpse (I guess you did this already but still had to mention it). Digital Tutors also offers a tutorial about the basics and first steps into Mobu.
I also know that we got some really great Motionbuilder guys here which - I guess - will not hesitate to answer more precise questions about the software
Good luck, hope I could help you a little bit.
Cheers!
There is a huge set of free MotionBuilder training on the Autodesk area site or the Autodesk MotionBuilder site.
Violett, never saw the comment on that eat3d video until now, but it is dead on, animators using the tools tend to default to “fighting” the mocap data because they learned that way or don’t like having to use mocap and would rather feel like they are “animating” by fighting the data.
so you already did the characterization for the humanIK Rig, that means you have a character which can get animations retargeted from another character(e.g. the mocap actor).
It’s hard to tell how the mocap is available for you from here:
c3d - data?
mocap - actor?
another characterized mocap skeleton with the mocap animation already applied?
