Maya Matrix/Vector Lessons

Hello new forum! My name is Andrew, an animator at Uber Entertainment, but I recently switched to Maya and have been getting up to speed on rigging and Python. I have been messing around with transform matrices and vectors with OpenMaya and MEL expressions, but I could use some structured tutorials. What text books or tutorials would you recommend to better understand transform matrices in Maya?

Hamish Mckenzie’s tutorials are a great primer: http://www.macaronikazoo.com/?page_id=413
Ryan Trowbridges masterclass is awesome as well: http://area.autodesk.com/masterclasses/masterclass/class3_q1_2012

There’s also a lot of great information in game development books. There’s a book called “3D math primer” or something along those lines which is great.

Thanks! I had found the Macaroni Kazoo series and it really helped me. I’ll check out that master class. Is this the book you are talking about?

This is the first one of a series I did on 3d math:

Yup! That’s the book! I found it useful when I was learning about 3D math.

Ooh! Didn’t know you had written a bunch of those! Thanks Steve!

Thanks, I was able to get my bike tires to turn correctly driven by world vectors after that masterclass. I’ll check out that book and I’ll read anything about Bagels and coffee!
