I have a chance to do independent study this upcoming semester and I’m working on planning out a project or series of projects that will be valuable and educational to me as a student/prospective technical artist (of one flavor or another).
I would like some input on the sorts of problems that are frequently solved or problems that you currently see as things that need to be worked on. Specifically I’d love to know what skills you would look for when hiring a technical artist right out of school. I do not have any one area of Technical Art decided on as what I want to do, I really just generally love solving problems, so just about anything is a possible project as of now.
Regardless of the project i will need to produce something that is usable by my peers (and other people, if they so choose) and I must document and support it (‘so that my mother could understand it’ is the general standard), so I will be required to create something usable and sane. Also, if there’s something particularly mathy, I’d love to give that a shot (math was something I always loved, and I’d really enjoy the chance to cut my teeth on something that involves a little number cruchy goodness).
So here’s your chance to build your dream fresh out of college technical artist! ( Or… at least as much of one as a summer and a couple of semesters can produce ). I’d greatly appreciate any input about projects/techniques/anything you feel would make this independent study more profitable for me.
Thanks in advance
