Summary:
Image-Metrics, one of the world’s leading facial animation companies in games and film has an immediate opening for a Technical Director based out of the US. This is a unique opportunity that will allow you to work with the very best game teams and film production in the industries on many levels. You will work with sales, production and studios to utilize Image Metrics tools and process to build leading edge facial animation in the entertainment industry.
Role for Successful Candidate:
-Be the external technical expert and free range trouble-shooter for customers who have adopted Image Metrics services into their pipeline.
-Demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience in the 3D animation process, especially as related character tasks (modeling, rigging, animation).
-Build effective demo content and manage test process with customers to help sales secure studio adoption.
-Exceptional communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups.
-Must be confident, well spoken and have an understanding of etiquette, diplomacy and general studio sensibilities.
-Be aware of new technologies, techniques, and processes that will benefit studio’s production processes for current and future projects.
Responsibilities:
-Pro-active problem solving abilities and a strong sense of creativity and respect for aesthetics.
-Ability to establish priorities, work independently or within a group, and work with minimal supervision.
-Assist internal and external animators and artists with technical troubleshooting of shots.
-Work with technical staff in support of in-house production and customer site software support.
-Utilize experience and customer feedback to help design effective solutions for facial rigs, and evaluate client and existing facial rigs and provide feedback for potential improvements.
-Help build effective and compelling Demo’s for Sales & Marketing.
-Provide support and development of tools and procedures to extend and enhance the pipeline.
-Ensure adequate pre-production and testing of new concepts/techniques prior to production.
-Ensure pipeline development follows studio policies and guidelines.
-Manage customer adoption process. This person will visit customers and make sure Image Metrics’ product results are delighting those customers.
Skills & Experience:
-Creature rigging experience within Maya, 3DS Max, XSI, and/or other 3rd Party Animation systems.
-Experience working in game engines (Unreal, Crytek, Infernal, proprietary) will be given preferential status
-Able to work with a wide variety of 2D and 3D software packages.
-A detailed technical understanding of facial animation rigs and experience with animating facial rigs in multiple software packages.
-Experience with live action video shoots a plus!
-Production experience in computer animation, animation for feature films, broadcast animation, and facial animation for video games.
-Hands-on understanding of Pre-production.
-Experience in working with motion capture data preferred.
-Programming skills and pipeline tool development experience desired.* Preferably with Python, Perl, Maxscript, and MEL.
Requirements/ Requests:
-Bachelor or Associate Art degree(s) in Animation/3D Graphics, or proven abilities at expert level in this field.
-20-40% travel.
