Hi everyone - a quick note to let you know that Fabric 2.1 has now shipped: http://fabricengine.com/whats-new-in-fabric-engine-2-1/
We’re getting more and more games companies jumping on now, particularly with regard to the Kraken open-source rigging project. There’s a big update coming on this soon that I think you’ll like.
If you just want the highlights of 2.1, here’s a a quick overview from Eric Mootz:

From my view, the coolest stuff is the new attribute presets:

We’ve been pushing hard to make it easier to ramp up with Fabric, and these presets (our equivalent to ICE compounds) should hit the spot.
You can get Fabric for free here: http://fabricengine.com/get-fabric/
Cheers,
Paul and the team
Very interesting! I was looking at your videos on Vimeo but the sequence in which they were uploaded doesn’t seem to be entirely consistent, would it be possible for you to arrange them into albums so that it’s easier to view particular topics? Thanks!
Hi there - we post the videos in blogs, so trawling through vimeo isn’t the best way to absorb info. However, we do some filtering on our Showcase page: http://fabricengine.com/showcase/ - I also recommend looking at the forums as there are a lot of people in there sharing their work etc: http://forums.fabricengine.com/
Thanks,
Paul
I was really excited to try out Fabric with Kraken, but I was quickly dismayed when I saw that every 15 minutes maya would be locked up for 15 seconds. I am sorry if this comes off as harsh, but for as cool as this looks and as useful as this may be I personally couldn’t invest my limited time into learning it, especially with a constant distraction like that. Please look into either a normal timed trial or some alternative free license.

I haven’t got round to downloading Kraken yet but I can see why this would be annoying, is this a function of the application, bug or something that could be particular to your machine?

I wish it was a bug. This is how the free individual license works. You get a prompt every 15 minutes asking you to register a license. Unfortunately its not just the prompt, it locks up Maya for 15 seconds.
If you apply for the free license then you don’t get the pause. It’s literally just a form on our website: http://fabricengine.com/request-fabric-evaluation/
