just about the sinus part of your blog page :
I found asin(bx+c) where a = intensity , b = frequency and c = gap , with additional math exp() etc… you can do amazing thing ( But re-create the hair system with expression is a little … counter productiv)
So my question is : what about a sinus deformers on the curve (center of the scene) that skin (I go BShapes personally) the initCurve ?
I’m far to be a “Tech Artist” and I do not know how to compare the sinus deformer against the expression method with a real technical approach (in terms of math graphics, stored in files etc… TD stuff i cannot)
There was a post on that topic (heat map utilisation (DG) , not convinced…
(currently i print the framerate on a scene with 100 times the same rig and compare to the other scene with 100 times the other rig … very bad technique… because , I do not understand maya deeply and it seems to make optimisation when repeating the same object or connection (Voodoo supposition XD ) so my conclusion could be False.
You have a very good blog (top ten rigging blog for me, in animation i love also the work of flip camaron fieldings , awesome too !)

Yes you can directly use the sin non linear deformer on the curve and get similar result. with expression you have a tad bit more mathematical control. however sin deformer on a spline or a curve to control is just fine. you can also use it to control a joint chain using the spline ik settings. cheers XD
