POSITION SUMMARY
Disney Online Studios is looking for an experienced Technical Artist who has a thorough understanding of Maya, and pipelines and techniques for online game production. This person will work with the Art Director to deliver outstanding visual quality within the constraints of the engine, and will be responsible for evaluating and initiating pipelines and features needed to streamline production.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• MEL/Python scripting of Maya Tools
• Maintenance and customization of Alienbrain asset management software
• Establishing polygon/texture budgets for in-game assets
• Supporting artists by diagnosing problems impeding them and troubleshooting problems in overall pipeline
• Researching and developing new art tools, processes, and technologies for production of real-time and pre-rendered game artwork
• Designing, implementing and maintaining art production pipelines using both off-the-shelf and proprietary software
• Creating proof-of-concept files for game art and effects
• Creating training files, examples, text and tutorials and assisting art staff in learning new technologies and processes
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Graphic Art, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 4+ years of experience as a Technical Artist
Excellent knowledge of Maya; able to troubleshoot problems / errors
• Solid understanding of mental ray including mental ray shaders, best practices and optimization techniques
• Solid MEL, Python, JavaScript and/or C# scripting skills and firm grasp of 3D math
• Solid understanding of polygon/texture limitations as it pertains to online, browser-based games
• Familiar with HLSL shader authoring
• Effectively and productively communicate with leads, engineers, artists , designers and managers
