I haven’t seen this in years but I have an artist that has a new mb file that suddenly corrupted. It seems to have also corrupted a number of his backups as well. I am trying to get to the data to recover any possible work. I also kill Maya when opening up any of the crash ma files that Maya saved and have even tried to do a mayabatch to convert it to ma without the UI in case it was an opengl issue. Any other suggestions?

if it is a MB, not much you can do. If it is a MA, you can look at it in a text editor.
The first thing I do when I open a MA in a text editor, is go to the bottom of the file and ensure it isn’t truncated.
You may need something like VIM to open the MA if it is very large.

These were definitely .mb files. I have also looked into the .ma files saved when Maya crashes.

This is one of the reasons why we have a strict .ma only policy on our team. (I know that’s of no help, sorry.)
