Character Rigger
Eurocom was founded in 1988 and has evolved into a world leading developer of cutting-edge console games based on high profile franchises and movies. Eurocom’s development team comprises of over 250 highly experienced and talented staff, based in Derby in the UK.
We are seeking to appoint a Character Rigger to build and maintain character setups within a game production pipeline.
General duties:
• Support for the development of skeletal building and skin weighting techniques in Maya for next generation console games.
• Support for the development of facial animation techniques in Maya.
• Check the quality of work prior to submission with Lead Rig Animator/Animation Manager and report back on the progress and raise any other issues that may need to be addressed.
• Work closely with Character Modellers and Animators to maintain and further develop an efficient production pipeline.
• Communicate directly with Programmers and support and further requirement for characters to work in the game.
• Support and work with technical aspects of animation like dynamics, clothes, fur – this could involve research into testing and improving current procedures and a knowledge of what can and can’t be used in game.
• Provide support for motion capture character setup.
• During the normal course of your duties you may be required to author original work and create or invent new processes and/or techniques.
• To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required.
Skills:
• Advanced knowledge of technical character procedures like rigging, skinning, morph.
• Advanced knowledge of anatomy is crucial.
• Knowledge of MEL scripting or Python would be advantageous but not essential.
• Good communication skills and ability to work under pressure within a team.
• Knowledge of setting up dynamics, clothes, fur, etc. in Maya would be advantageous but not essential.
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently or within a group, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
• Ability to learn and grow as production needs and technology changes.
• Ability to self-evaluate the quality of the production and create plans.
• Ability to communicate technically with Programmers would be advantageous but not essential.
Experience:
• Experience building character rigs or skin setup will be required.
• Experience within the games industry would be advantageous but not essential.
• Experience with motion capture and re-targeting setup would be advantageous but not essential.
• Programming knowledge/experience would be helpful.
Qualifications:
• Art qualification would be advantageous but not essential.
• Animation qualification or relevant experience would be advantageous but not essential.
