Hello fellow Tech Artist,

Hello fellow Tech Artist,
I want to start a blog to keep track of my work both professorially and personally and I was wondering if any of you had any advice on the best, or what you consider to be the best, blogging platform is.
As a CMS for my portfolio I like using Wordpress(on my own server, not theirs) because there’s a huge community behind it and it’s very user friendly. It’s blogging system is nice but it is a ‘do it all system’ that gets a little much for just blog posts IMO.
But for a quick update blog, I really like Tumblr because it’s really barebones and fast to get something down.
So I wrote a PHP script to get the JSON from Tumblr and combine it with my Wordpress install. Works well mostly…and is a sort of best of both worlds.
What exactly do you want to do?
If you just want to write text, embed videos and add pictures; I can’t see a very big difference either way for you.
The differences really boil down to your intent and personal preferences. I second wordpress (self hosted) as I just like to write in it better than the other options out there. Either option works for general blogging and you can always export your content to and from.

Pretty much exactly that…I want something that takes minimal setup and will allow me to post text, post videos, and pictures. I will look into WordPress tonight when I get home.
Thanks for the advice…
