Axis Animation - RnD Programmer

Award-winning animation studio Axis Animation creates stunning animation for some of the world’s leading names in Games, Commercials, Broadcast and Film. Founded in 2000, the studio prides itself in producing high quality innovative animation from their base in Glasgow, Scotland.

Recent works include the episodic Halo: Infinity for Halo 4, game trailers for popular titles such as Dead Island 2, Crackdown, Alien Isolation, Fable Legends, as well as various film, television and commercials work in conjunction with sister studio Axis VFX.

The Axis R&D team is responsible for developing ground-breaking software to ensure that the studio remains at the forefront of awesome animation production, and they are seeking an experienced R+D Programmer to join their team. This position will be responsible for and contributing to creating and maintaining new software for the studio.

The qualifying individual will be a key member of a project team so this is the perfect opportunity for someone to who loves working in a productive, collaborative, creative environment. The candidate will require expertise in planning, building and implementing new applications and features as well as inputting on new systems and processes.

We’re especially interested in applicants with VFX/CG/Games industry experience.

Candidates are required, and must be eligible at time of application, to work on-site in Glasgow, for a minimum of 12 months.

Responsibilities :
Research and examine current systems, tools, and processes to address challenges
Present ideas of the Head of R+D
Plan, estimate and design software to work with existing software in a studio production environment
Define requirements and features for new systems and tools
Write code in a variety of areas to enable work across platforms, media, software and sites
Work with project and studio management and other team members to prioritize tasks
Keep project and studio management and other team members informed of progress, changes and other critical issues
Test and modify systems to ensure that they operate reliably
Produce technical documentation and user manuals

Professional requirements and skills :
Bachelors in Computer Science or comparable professional experience
Proven experience developing CG/VFX related tools
Experience with relevant application APIs such as Houdini, Maya
Excellent knowledge of Python and C++ **
Solid understanding of computer graphics and mathematics
Solid knowledge of Windows platforms
Some experience with Bash, Java or similar would be beneficial

Positive can-do attitude combined with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
Excellent communication and organizational skill with strong attention to detail
Must be able to prove eligibility for working in the UK
