Autodesk Meet the Experts Webinar - Blitz Games Studios

Hello all!

New to the tech artists forum and thought I’d start by posting a live Webinar I took part in for Autodesk. Since graduating I have spent the last two years as an R&D Technical Animator for Blitz Games Studios. Have a love for all things rigging/scripting/pipeline development and hope to contribute to this forum as often as I can. Webinar can be viewed here -

It does last an hour but covers tech animation, tech art and some new features of Maya 2013. For those of you who don’t have time to watch it I did a shorter cut and posted it on Vimeo here -

The rig I have created is an adjustable bipedal character rig with usual squash and stretch functionality that can be tweaked without the use of script jobs. There is also an overview of the animation tools I created with Pymel and PyQt to go with it. Hope you enjoy it, critique welcome.

Hi Harry, thanks for posting.

I’m looking at something similar, a rigging system without the initial overhead of autorigging, so I found this really useful.

Would you mind explaining a little about the skeleton adjustment at the start of the demo and the technology underneath it? Are you rebuilding the skeleton, or re-orientating the existing joints or some other technique, or is it simpler that that?

Cheers

Paul

Hi Harry,

One thing that you might concider to be useful is automatically swapping to the appropriate tool on controller selection. For instance, if you select something that can only rotate, why not have it automatically select the rotation tool.

Cheers,
Mark
